Trend Report: Berry Red Lips

Berry red is THE colour of the season.  From beauty to clothes, berry red cropped up all over Autumn/Winter catwalks.  Plum tones, scarlet reds and deep burgundy…anything will go.  The easiest way to update your A/W look is by going for a strong berry lip.  Where it matte and stained during the day and go glossy and bold at night.  You can’t go wrong.

The history of the Kimono

Originally, ‘Kimono' was the Japanese word for clothing. In more recent years, the word now refers specifically to traditional dress.

Known as the straight-line cut method, pieces of fabric would be cut in straight lines and sewn together - in this way, kimono makers didn’t concern themselves with the shape of the wearer’s body.

#TrendingTuesday // Oriental

Fashion takes a trip to the east this winter and discovers design and decorative elements from the Orient. Designers Dries Van Noten and Proenza Schouler sent oriental infused dresses and artisanal outerwear down their A/W 12 runways.  From literal dragon prints and flourishing eastern flora to kimono shapes and mandarin collars, all influences were remixed and ready for the street.

Hyperculture: Q and A with our Head Stylist

Our head stylist, Liz explains Hyperculture so that we can all get our heads around the craziest trend of the season and tells us why it is one of her favourite trends this season!

  1. Describe Hyperculture in three words..

Harajuko, happy and…hyper

2. Which key designers have influenced this trend this season and in the past?

This is a very London trend sparked by Louise Gray and Meadham Kirchhoff - heavily influenced by street kids, club kids and japanese styling.  Hitting the 90s rave trend alongside clashing prints and intense colours this trend is of the zeitgeist and is ultimately a very girly and feminine trend - saved from being sickly sweet or hilarious with clever styling and worn with an attitude. It’s like playing
dress up in real life and just having fun.

The IT List

The IT List is all the key pieces you need to survive the new season.  Mix and match essentials that make the rest of your wardrobe make sense.  Read on to see what made it into our Autumn/ Winter IT list.

The perfect piece of the capsule wardrobe to make the transition from summer to winter. Practical, sensible, and totally on trend in both pallette and style. Easy to wear and throw over any look it’s the answer to casual Utility Luxe.  Can be styled with a belt at the waist for a more feminine silhouette or worn loose and relaxed for a grungier feel.

Sleek and minimal the blazer can be worn within all key trends. Can be used to strengthen your look and gives effortless style to the wearer. Winter’s tonal colour palette replaces summer brights with a more sophisticated and classic aesthetic. Worn with shirts, dresses, skirts and trousers it is perhaps the most versatile piece and lends itself to both day and night.

A boohoo staple – our signature shape and also A/W’s silhouette of choice as seen across the catwalk. Nipping you in at the waist and flaring out over the hips the skater is flattering and easy to wear. Whether you want to toughen it up with a gothic belt or keep it simple and sweet the skater is this seasons shape to be seen in.

The chunky knit adds texture and has the all important layering factor, a clear trend when styling your winter looks. A stylish choice for the colder months, can be worn loose and casual or belted at the waist. Nods to heritage, folklore and military trends depending on how you choose to wear it.  A great cover up perfect over bodycon shapes and silhouettes as well as trousers.

The collar is one of the strongest trends to emerge from the catwalk and can be layered under jumpers, dresses or worn as a standalone piece. Buttoned to the neck nodding to both military and gothic trends it can be accessorised with a necklace to feminise the look. Embellished collars with studs or jewels is what differentiates this seasons shirt and makes it the standout fashion forward piece of the IT list.

Black, sleek and slinky the bodysuit lends itself to the gothic glamour trend perfectly. More wearable than people give it credit for, this piece will help you achieve a streamlined shape with no unsightly vpl. Can be layered up or down with skirts, trousers, shorts or simply opaque tights and killer heels for the more daring fashion follower. Think Jesse J.

A staple in every winter wardrobe the military coat has a sharp silhouette and its gold buttons are both decorative and bang on trend. A fashion piece on it’s own, especially when worn with long boots will allow you to look stylish whilst on the move. Fierce.

This shape was featured by all the fashion press and is a strong trend for A/W. The sharpness of the shape and cinching in of the waist make it a powerful and womanly silhouette. Classic yet directional the peplum will instantly update simple tops, skirts, dresses or jackets.

Not the most obvious A/W item but updated in darker, berry shades this piece is surprisingly wearable. Worn with leather trousers, summers 50’s style gives way to a more rocky look channelling the 90’s . Perfect for layering it allows a glimpse of flesh where least expected.

Another signature Boohoo style updated for winter with opulent prints. Nailing this seasons key trends this pair are baroque and glamourous. Can be worn in an eclectic way with a clashing or matching print, plain black for sophistication and a gothic slant or with a cropped jumper/bralet for the 90’s look.

Never out of vogue the little black dress is shown here in A/W’s new length. The midi is the hemline of the season. Worn simply on its own this dress makes the most of your silhouette and can also be layered with knitwear, shirts, jackets and coats to elongate your lower body with its sleek lines. Manages to look classy and glam without showing off too much leg, must be worn with killer heels.

Every winter wardrobe needs a staple boot – this season our sharp killer heeled shoe boot will update your look instantly. Worn with trousers, bare legs, or black opaque’s they give a tough yet sexy finishing touch to your outfit and the confidence in which to strut.

 THE PU Trouser:

The ultimate in capsule wardrobe dressing. Can be worn with just about anything -  smart, sexy and totally on trend. Worn with heels and accessorised with this seasons studded accessories gives a punkier edge and updates this modern day classic pant.
