Power to the Maxi

The great thing about maxi dresses is that they are one of the most flattering and versatile pieces to wear this season. Whether you have a petite shape or the curves that we all crave, this floor length fashion staple suits any figure.

What is more, it is perfect for any occasion - whether it’s dressed up or down. Petite women should opt for a maxi dress with heels or wedges to give the illusion of extra height and curvier women should balance out their shape by drawing attention to their neck area with a statement necklace.

So if it’s a picnic in the park or a summer wedding that you simply cant wait any longer for, a jersey maxi dress is a must have.

Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, SJP and Cheryl Cole have all been papped wearing this wonderful creation along with gorgeous accessories to complete the maxi dress look.  So why not follow in their footsteps this summer and accessorize to the max to stand out from the crowd.

If maxi dresses aren’t for you, then why not try a floor length maxi skirt to create a similar look but wear with a simple tee or an embellished bralet to be bang on trend this season.  Style gurus such as Olivia Palermo and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley are both fans of the maxi skirt trend, teaming it up with simple knits and leather jackets to finish off the perfect outfit for summer.

The mixi, a fusion of ‘the maxi skirt’ and the teeny tiny ‘mini skirt’, is the surprising silhouette that took the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk by storm.  Jason Wu as ever can do no wrong.  He created huge flowing mixi skirts and dresses in an array of bright summery hues for his magical SS12 show.
As much as we love the mixi, it can be a difficult trend to approach so we have asked our team of boohoo fashion experts for a few hot tips to show how this shape can be surprisingly versatile!
Team it with a skinny belt to give your silhouette definition and nip in your waist.
Keep your top half sleek with tighter tops and let the mixi do the talking.
Colour blocking can be made easy with a mixi.  Try a bold colour in a fitted T-shirt with a colour-blocked mixi for a fashion forward look.
While the weather stays cool, a top tip is to layer mixi tops and skirts over leather-look leggings for a warmer approach.
How would you style it up?  Any ideas?
