You don’t have to be a high tier blogger or a member of the fashion elite or even a C-list celeb to master fashion week. With a few well-honed hints and expert tips, you too can enjoy the excitement and chaos of the fashion week assault course, minus the press pass. So here it is – The Complete Beginner’s Guide To: Fashion Week.
Looking to get snapped? Deciding what to wear is a challenge in itself. Fashion week is the opportune time to show off that risqué new season buy or to try something outside of your normal style comfort zone, no one knows you there (unless you go with a friend) so go for it!
Take a tote bag with you for all of the freebies (yes, FREEbies). Companies like to stand outside the main grounds giving away special fashion week goodies. From free drinks to make up, don’t say no just grab it and stick it in your tote! It will be fun going through it all later that day on the train home.
Know the nearest place to recharge your batteries (and your iPhone’s). Doing laps of the tents can be draining so keep your energy up and grab a quick coffee and a snack along the way.
Take flats to change in to at the end of the day and consider your footwear choice wisely, you’ll be on your feet all day and Somerset House at LFW in particular is all cobbled – wobbling is not a good look. Trainers are going strong in the style stakes and all fashion Ed’s have been opting for them over their usual heels.
Sit back, grab a coffee and participate in some celeb spotting, from Olivia Palermo and Brix Smith-Start to the cast of TOWIE, fashion week is an exciting whirlwind of all kinds of celebrities, from A-Z (!). Do a bit of research prior to going and find out the local ‘it’ bars for a well-deserved cocktail (and continued celeb spotting) at the end of the day.
Soak it in from the comfort of your bedroom.
The biggest thing about fashion week is the shows, duhh. So get yourself on the FROW by catching them live on the dedicated Paris/NY/Milan/London fashion week websites and make sure you don’t miss out on any of the catwalk action. All 5 days’ worth of designers are mapped out for each city, with venues, days and set times. Each video is streamed live from the front row and if a show is running late (standard behaviour) it has a timer for when it will start and in the meantime the video keeps playing so you can watch everyone scrambling around pre show!
