Finding the perfect mascara can be a tricky job!  We know how important it is for a mascara to last the course of the day without clumping or smudging.  Bearing this in mind we set out to to hunt down a mascara that ticks all the beauty boxes without breaking the bank.  Check out our verdict:
In first place,  Loreal Lash Perfect is the clear winner.  At £10.99, it was one of the more expensive mascaras but it was definitely worth the extra pennies.  Although the brush is chunkier with smaller bristles, it was really easy to apply.  The smaller head also meant that you could reach individual lashes really easily.  It is fairly wet on application but gives instant length and volume.  Most importantly it lasts the entire day and didn’t smudge.
At £2.99, Collection 2000 Super Size Fat Lash Mascara, was our bargain mascara.  Surprisingly this mascara really performed well.  It had a nice texture on application and didn’t clump.  The size of the brush allowed it to curl the lashes and stretch them out to give good definition.  However it did flake towards the end of the day.  If you are on a budget, this is definitely worth a try!
Mac False Lashes in black, at £18, was the priciest of the bunch. It gave amazing length and really good volume.  However as it is quite dry on application, it takes a  fair few coats to get the desired volume.  The brush provided gives a nice curl as it has thick bristles.  However it didn’t last the course of the day and flaked.
Last but not least, Maybelline Great Lash in black was a little underwhelming.  At £4.99, it was our middle price range mascara.  The brush was very short and stumpy meaning it was difficult to create that lovely curl.  However it did mean that it was easy to reach individual lashes to get good coverage and definition.  However the formula clumped on application and flaked during the course of the day.
