Dress For Your Shape: Monochrome Styling

Do you think that you are an apple shape?  If you are, you will have a rounded tummy and a larger chest.  Monochrome is one of the biggest trends of Spring/Summer 2012 and is very wearable for you apple shapes out there.  The best shape dress for you is the wrap dress as it gathers at the waist and skims over your tummy.  The multi-directional stripes will draw the eye away from your tummy streamlining your figure.

If you are an athletic shape, you will have strong legs and shoulders with a flat stomach.  Stripes are the perfect pattern for you as, as they skim over your body, they will give you curves in all the right places.  So show off your slender legs in a pair of monochrome striped leggings.  Why not team them with a classic white shirt and some shoe boots for a sporty look this Spring.

Are you an hourglass shape?  If so you will have curves in all the right places.  You will have a larger bust and hips with a smaller waist.  With a womanly figure like yours, don’t hide away, try out a longer length bodycon dress with some sharp tailoring.  The pencil shape skirt will skim over your hips and will end just above the knee slimming your silhouette.

If you are a pear shape, you will have a larger bottom half than your top half.  You will have curvy hips and thighs but you will have a smaller waist and narrow shoulders.  To work this classic monochrome trend, invest in a striped blazer.  This will give you shoulders and even out your bottom half.  Team with a skater dress to show off your small waist and let the skirt skim over your hips.

Are you petite?  If so, then you need to be careful when choosing the stripes you wear.  Go for the wrong ones and you could appear to be shorter than you are.  The best stripes for you are vertical stripes as these will elongate your body and make you appear taller than you are.  Horizontal stripes will do the opposite.  For some funky styling, try this maxi with a cropped top and glam gold jewellery.

If you are taller than the rest of us, don’t be afraid of trying out a maxi skirt.  You will look ultra glam in one with your long legs.  Try teaming a plain maxi with a striped tunic top and some boho accessories for a look that is perfect for this transitional weather.  A tunic top is perfect for you, teamed with anything from denim jeans to skirts as your height can take longer layers.
