The avid boohoo.com fans among you will be aware of our competition with Reveal magazine, offering a yearlong internship with the design department at boohoo.com HQ for one lucky reader. The brief was to submit an original design to showcase creative skills and an awareness of fashion.
We were inundated with entries, but managed to whittle down the applicants to 5 girls, all who we felt had great talent and potential, as well as an understanding of the boohoo.com customer. They traveled to Manchester to take part in an exclusive photo shoot and be grilled by our team. Read their interviews and see the full spread in Reveal magazine, out now. Congratulations to the finalists!
We loved Chloe Lennox’s dipped hem dress, complete in citrus shades and embellishment.
Claire Kerekes used her experience in the fashion industry to design this unique evening gown.
Representing Glasgow, Julie McNicol kept her entry fun and and flirty, exactly the angle we aim for here at boohoo.com!
Referencing Stella McCartney as an influence, Keeley Bracegirdle’s body-con cut-out design hit multiple style points.

'I created this outfit with what sort of thing I would like wear on a night out myself. I am always drawn to hotpants but I sometimes put them off as I do not want to attract the wrong kind of attention they are one of those items that can look really wrong (and possibly tarty) or really right (and really chic) depending on how they are styled. To steer myself more toward the chic end of things I have paired them with a romantic black lace shirt which I would wear with a longline bra top or sweetheart vest top underneath and a long ivory blazer to cover up with. I think going for ivory looks much more inventive and fresh than an obvious black blazer with this kind of outfit.'
'what we all need in times of crisis, a nice little black dress, though this one has a bit of a twist as it is made from a mix of sheer fabric and velvet (my two favourite fabrics right now!) I have paired the dress with some Mary Jane platforms and sheer ankle socks to give the outfit a quirky yet girly edge.’
'The leather trousers and choker might be seen as quiet tough pieces for romance but they are both bang on trend this season and can look quite high fashion and expensive! To make the look much softer and to fit in with this seasons romantic theme I added a nude slouchy shirt which is belted at the waist. The unstructured nature of the shirt helps to achieve a much more easy going and romantic feel.'
Find the Perfect Party Dress for Your Office Christmas Party
With Christmas around the corner, our diaries are fast filling up with Christmas parties to attend, and of course, there is always obligatory office Christmas do. Love it or loathe it, our festive office fete is a key date in our Christmas calendars, and the time has come to prep and preen ourselves… and acquire the perfect party dress for the occasion.
So the question is…what do we wear? Something to perhaps catch the eye of your office crush, or ensure you dazzle of the dance floor? Say no more. Sequins are the quintessential Christmas staple, and whether you opt for a matte black sequin for that subtle sparkle, or a jewel coloured gem, you are set to make a style statement in your Christmas dress.
Alternatively, an a line silhouette in the form of a skater dress is a flattering, but fun office party option. The a line shape skims effortlessly over curves, perfect for those of us who are partial to a mince pie! Choose a berry colour, and team with opaque tights for a look that will transcend the party season and into the New Year.
Finally, for the office fashionista, a key look this Christmas is faux leather. A sexy bandeau mini dress is this year’s reinvention of the LBD, to ensure you get an extra few minutes under the mistletoe. Throw over a faux fur, and some chunky jewellery and you’re ready to party!
Boohoo competition winner Ami Paton was over the moon when the day finally came for her to meet rapper, Professor Green, who recently scored a Number One single with ‘Read All About It’ when he performed with support act, Rizzle Kicks on his latest tour.
Last Friday saw the two acts take to the stage at Manchester Academy and our Boohoo competition winners had the time of their lives, ‘At the gig the atmosphere was amazing throughout - from the support act Rizzle Kicks - to when Professor Green performed.’
Ami who attended the gig with a friend was lucky enough to not only see the two rap acts on stage, but they also got the chance to meet Pro Green in the flesh and receive a signed poster and album!
In fact, the girls would have liked to spend all evening chatting with the rap star: ‘When we met him, we thought he was such a nice and genuine guy, he was very polite with us and seemed really happy to get pictures with all his fans, it was just a shame we didn’t get longer with him’
We also treated both girls to £50 of Boohoo vouchers each so that they can find an outfit from one of our amazing winter collections!
Evidently the girls enjoyed themselves: ‘We thought it was incredible. We will definitely go see them again!’
Have a look at our facebook page to see some more fab competitions.
The boohoo girls have always prided themselves on having the latest fashions, well this week we’re also bringing you a review of glitter eyeliners…’cus you know glitter is a girl’s best friend!
1.Mac’s Superslick Liquid Eyeliner, £15.
I really liked the fact that this product looked like a pen on first glance, but once I opened it up I found that the wand was longer than the tube with the product in! Nevertheless, the brush allowed for great precision, it felt really nice on and it dried quickly. Perfect for that subtle shimmery look but not for £15! 6/10.
2. Gosh Extreme Art Eyeliner, £6.99.
I was quite excited about this eyeliner. The colour and shimmer looked gorgeous in the tube and it didn’t lose it’s effect once I put it on. It went on really easily, dried quickly and lasted all night! My only problem was that it could have had a bit more glitter in it, but that was it! 7/10
3. Boujois Clubbing Liner, £5.99.
The brush was amazing on this product, the thin brush gave me amazing precision to apply the product. The colour was really vivid, but it wasn’t as glittery as the name and packaging had lead me to believe. It didn’t budge the whole time I was wearing it, so definitely great value for money! 6/10
4. Too Faced Starry Eyed Eyeliner, £14.
I was really impressed to begin with. In the flesh the glitter looked amazing, and gave a classy, party look. But once I started snapping, the effect didn’t come across in the same way on my pictures. But it didn’t stop me giving it 8/10!
5. Collection 2000 Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner £2.99.
I tried the Night Fever shade which is a really vivid electric blue shade. It wasn’t the easiest to put on as the glitter tended to be a bit clumpy. Saying that the finished result was an amazing impact of colour and glitter - although it wasn’t as polished looking as the others it did dry quickly and stay on, which was amazing for £2.99! 6/10.
6. Barry M Glitter Liquid Eyeliner, £4.99.
This looked really glittery in the tube, but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed when I put it on. I had to use quite a bit to build up the glitter affect I’d achieved quickly with the others. So with that said I think it probably wouldn’t last very long, but for under a fiver I wasn’t complaining with the result! I actually quite liked the subtle shimmer after a while which was more me that some of the brighter shades. 5/10.
So our winner was Too Faced! Although it’s bit more expensive than the others I will definately be dazzling on the dancefloor with it at the office party!
Inject some colour into the dark winter nights with a flash of colour for your outerwear. This Orange pea coat is THE colour of the season and with its 1960’s mod style is a perfect option for cool sophistication. Orange was huge on the A/W 11 catwalks and continues to show through S/S 11. At HQ, we love to make a statement and we’re sure to do just that this Christmas.
Each year, I, like many of you, look forward to buying that perfect winter coat and this year it is all about red coats and red jackets. Yes, this year your cosy cover up can really turn heads as well as helping you brave those harsh winter winds with some style. However, if a show stopping pillar box red jacket for the festive season is not your thing and you need something a little more subtle, the choices are endless at boohoo.
Whether its the hottest coat off the catwalk, or a style classic, whatever you choose, I guess you never really think about how lucky we are to even have the opportunity to buy a coat! Well, the guys over at Day Break have thought about this and, along with The Salvation Army are heading up the Donate A Coat Campaign. The idea is that while you’re out buying your hot red coat this season, rediscover your community spirit and, well, donate a coat. It really is as simple as that.
Day Break will be collecting your coats and, in the spirit of Christmas, The Salvation Army will be handing them out to the homeless, as well as the elderly and families in need this winter. At Boohoo HQ we wanted to give something back to the community, so sent some coats and got involved. And we weren’t the only ones. From Robbie Williams to The Saturdays and Cher Lloyd the celebs love a good cause and have all had a good rummage through their coat closets to find some red hot coats and jackets for a cause. So why don’t you take our lead and give something back this Christmas.
The sportsluxe trend has been on our radar for the past couple of seasons, with subtle references being seen on the catwalks, from jersey fabrics, mesh panelling to drawstring details. Now this theme is stronger than ever and set to be hot for SS12…kind of convenient considering we’re hosting the Olympics next summer!
Speaking of the Olympics, many designers have taken inspiration from traditional sporting costumes from funnel neck collars, piping and leggings as seen at Issey Miyake, Alexander Wang and Versus. Going to the gym has never been so glamorous! Er….guess we have no excuse not to go now…oops. Look out for our sportswear inspired pieces coming soon at boohoo.com!
Over here at Boohoo HQ, we have noticed a fierce, new trend that has taken the celeb world by storm: the leopard print shoe boot.
From pop stars to reality stars, from trend setters to actresses, celebrities are embracing their wild side the world over by teaming leopard print boots with pretty dresses, leather leggings and the ultimate in a girl’s wardrobe, the LBD.
A glowing Beyonce complete with baby bump uses her leopard print boots to make a statement with a chic all-black ensemble while 90210 actress, Shenae Grames and The Hills star, Whitney Port make maximum impact teaming theirs with black LBDs. Kardashian sisters, Kourney and Kim have been sharing their Christian Louboutin studded version of the trend and it seems fashionista, Olivia Palermo can’t get enough of her Charlotte Olympia Alice Leopard Print Booties as she is oft spotted mixing hers with strong colours and prints.
